Finding Web HostingWhat is web hosting?Once you have secured a domain name, the next step in getting your web site online is to find a web host. A web host keeps your site on their servers and makes it available to people who want to view it online. There are a wide range of hosting options available, and I recommend using an established hosting company with good customer service. Once you have your hosting set up, you need to attach it to your domain name. If you have any questions, the hosting company you choose can help you do this. It is a simple process. Web Hosting OptionsYou can choose between shared hosting and dedicated hosting at most hosting companies. Dedicated hosting is more expensive and for the most part unnecessary unless you plan to have a very large e-commerce business site. My suggestion is to find an inexpensive shared hosting plan, as you can always switch at a later time if you need to. The two hosting companies that I recommend are godaddy.com and hostgator.com. They both have options below ten dollars a month that include extra email accounts and everything you need for your hosting. I have talked to customer service at both companies and have been very pleased with the knowledge and level of support, which is nice, especially if you are setting things up for the first time. Free Web Hosting? There are options available from some hosting companies that will host your web site for free, but I strongly suggest avoiding these offers as they usually place advertisements on your site in exchange for the free hosting. While you may not have any interest in placing your own advertising on your site when you start, it is nice to have the option. Also, you will have no control over the advertisements placed on your site.
